MetaTrader 5 on Mobile: Trading Alpari from Your Pocket

Alpari, one of the oldest retail forex names around since 1998, offers MetaTrader 5 across its Standard, ECN, and Pro ECN accounts, and here is what that experience looks like for someone in South Africa.

Why MT5 Matters Here

You'll find yourself checking positions on the train, adjusting a stop-loss during lunch, or just watching the London-New York overlap hit its stride around 15:00–18:00 SAST. MT5 gives you the toolkit for that: 21 timeframes, six pending order types, and a built-in economic calendar.

Alpari runs MT5 alongside its own mobile app, but the MetaTrader 5 build is the workhorse. It handles 750+ instruments, from forex and metals to indices, share CFDs, and even crypto CFDs.
GOOD TO KNOW
The Micro account at Alpari is MT4-only. If you want MT5, you're looking at the Standard (USD 100), ECN (USD 300), or Pro ECN (USD 500) tiers.

Trading on the Go

The MT5 mobile app mirrors your desktop layout with almost no learning curve. Charts are full-featured, you get 30+ technical indicators on the fly, and one-tap trading from a chart is supported.

Where Alpari's mobile setup shines is practicality. Push notifications work as they should, the order ticket is clean, the position sizes are clear, and slippage on market orders has been reasonable in our testing.

The mobile app is a window, not the whole house. For heavy analysis, the desktop version still gives you more screen real estate for multi-chart layouts. For execution, monitoring, and quick adjustments, the phone handles it comfortably.

Costs and Account Reality

AccountMin DepositSpreadsCommission
StandardUSD 100From 0.3 pipsNone
ECNUSD 300From 0.1 pipsYes
Pro ECNUSD 500From 0.0 pips~USD 2.50/lot side

The ECN and Pro ECN accounts are where the tight spreads live, but you pay for it on the commission side. For scalping on your phone during the London-New York overlap, the Pro ECN at 0.0 pips plus ~USD 2.50 per lot per side is a trade-off worth calculating before you commit.

Leverage goes up to 1:3000 on forex and metals. South Africa has no ESMA-style retail cap to stop it, but it cuts both ways. A 0.03% adverse move at that leverage wipes out your margin, so treat it as a scalping tool, not a wealth-building strategy.

The Funding Side for SA

Alpari's base settlement currencies are USD, EUR, GBP, and CZK. There's no ZAR base account verified at review time, so you'll likely be converting your rands before you fund, and banks typically take 2–3% on that conversion.

The minimum deposit is USD 30 on Micro, but for MT5 you're starting at USD 100 on Standard. Funding options include cards, wire transfer, FasaPay, Volet, and crypto (BTC/ETH). A few things to note:

  • No verified local ZAR instant-EFT rail like Ozow or Capitec Pay at review
  • All funding and withdrawal goes through USD settlement
  • Cards clear in 2-5 days, SWIFT wires take 3-5 days

That's slower than the local instant-EFT experience you might be used to. It means planning around withdrawal timing if you need cash quickly.

WARNING
The FSCA recorded roughly 1,247 forex-scam complaints in 2023, with about R547m lost and only ~12% recovered. Always verify a broker's FSP number on the FSCA register before sending money anywhere.

Regulation: Know Exactly What You're Getting

Alpari is operated offshore for South African clients under Parlance Trading Ltd, which holds a Comoros MISA licence, number T2023236. This is an offshore Tier-3 setup, and the FSCA authorisation mentioned in some older reviews actually belonged to the previous Exinity operator. It is not verified as current for today's Alpari brand.

South African clients are not covered by local FSCA protection or an ODP licence. You're trading under the Comoros regulator, which is a lighter-touch environment. The brand itself has deep history, founded in 1998 and claiming 1M+ clients, so this isn't a fly-by-night operation. But the regulatory layer between you and your money is thinner than what you'd get from a broker holding an FCA or CySEC licence.

That's the trade-off: the older brand, tight spreads, and high leverage, but no local complaint mechanisms or investor compensation schemes that come with top-tier regulation. Check the FSCA FSP register yourself before committing funds.

Alpari’s mobile advantage

The MT5 mobile experience at Alpari is solid. Charts are responsive, execution is fast enough for most trading styles, and the instrument range is genuinely broad. If you're a discretionary trader who wants a full-featured platform on your phone, this works.

Go for it if you're comfortable with offshore regulation, you're trading smaller position sizes where the 1:3000 leverage won't tempt you into recklessness, and you're fine with the slower funding cycles. The 0.0 pips spreads on Pro ECN are genuinely competitive even by international standards.

Steer clear if you need local regulatory protection, if you trade large enough sums that the lack of an ODP licence and FSCA oversight becomes a real concern, or if you want ZAR-based accounts to avoid the conversion drag.

Yes, MetaTrader 5 has full mobile apps for both iOS and Android. You get charts, order management, push notifications, and one-tap trading with your existing MT5 login from Alpari.

What accounts support MT5 at Alpari?

+

Standard, ECN, and Pro ECN accounts all run MT5. The Micro account is MT4-only, so if you want the newer platform, you must start at the USD 100 Standard tier.

Does the leverage of 1:3000 apply to my account?

Yes, up to 1:3000 is available on forex and metals. South Africa has no ESMA-style cap on retail leverage, and this offshore entity offers the high end. A 0.03% adverse move at that level takes your margin out.
